For many Nigerians in the UK, passing the practical driving test is more than just ticking a legal box — it’s a personal milestone packed with emotion, money spent, and countless lessons, often the hard way.

That was exactly the case for X (formerly Twitter) user @mrlobalova, who captured the mood in one emotional post:

“The relief I had when I passed my practical driving test on the 3rd attempt. Tears full everywhere.”

The comment section became a mini therapy session, full of shared experiences, hidden frustrations, and victorious sighs of relief. What followed was a viral thread of raw and hilarious testimonies from other Nigerians living in the UK — all bonded by one journey: surviving the UK driving test.

“I spit on my instructor in my mind,” joked @larrytee23, who passed on the first attempt using a car he’d never driven before. He credited YouTube tutorials and local test route observations for his success.

“Baba turn me to cash cow. Owo wey enter bush no be small!”

For others like @seun_aiye, the journey was far longer:

“Team 7th attempt. I believe it made me a safe driver sha.”
He added, tongue-in-cheek:
“My wife passed on her 3rd attempt but drives like a danfo driver.”

Another user, @iam_jesam, was so overwhelmed after passing, he blurted out a selfie request to his examiner:

“I didn’t know when I asked him for picture. He said he’s not allowed. I was just happy.”

First-time passers like @anagazo also revealed the hidden cost of “success”:

“Tears full my eyes after I passed first attempt because I don too spend for instructor. They even moved my test date twice.”

Driving test trauma clearly cuts across experiences. From failed reverse bay parks due to tyres brushing white lines to shaky clutch control in manual cars, many said they shed real tears — regardless of the attempt number.

@vickson__ said it all:

“Omo, water drop o. Na only me know wetin my eyes see! Manual touggghhh!!”

The thread highlighted something bigger — not just the struggle of passing a driving test, but the shared resilience of immigrants adjusting to a new system, new rules, and new expectations. In those stories were lessons of patience, preparation, and persistence.

As @richard_vibesz noted:

“People wey pass first attempt no go understand this tweet.”

And they might never truly understand — until they too feel that flood of emotion when the examiner says: “I’m pleased to tell you that you’ve passed.”
