“We’ve Buried the Next Generation” — BBNaija Star Tacha Slams Nigerian Youths for Timidity and Comfort-Seeking Mindset

Reality TV personality and influencer Anita Natacha Akide, widely known as Tacha, has sparked heated online reactions after delivering a bold critique of Nigeria’s youth, accusing them of complacency in the face of national challenges.

In a passionate thread shared on X (formerly Twitter), the former Big Brother Naija housemate did not mince words, describing her generation as “the dumbest and most cowardly,” blaming them for turning away from national engagement in favour of personal convenience.

Funny how we blame those before us for destroying Nigeria,” she wrote, referencing former President Muhammadu Buhari, who, in his 20s, was involved in a military coup.
What are today’s 20-year-olds doing? #Japa . Crafting tweets. Chasing clout. Believe me, we’ve not just failed the next generation, we’ve buried it.

Tacha contrasted the current generation’s “online activism” and mass migration aspirations with the sacrifices made by previous generations who, according to her, “risked their lives for what they believed in.”

She noted that while young Nigerians of the past were fearless in confronting national issues, the present-day youth are more invested in securing foreign visas, building influencer careers, and staying comfortable - often at the expense of collective progress.

Back then, young people took a stance. Now, we line up for visas and prioritise comfort over country,” she tweeted.

Anticipating criticism, Tacha made it clear that her message was not a personal attack but a broader commentary on generational values.

This isn’t about me or anyone in particular,” she added.
It’s about a whole generation too afraid to put the nation before themselves. Y’all ask, ‘what have you done?’ I used my voice. I show up. I refuse to be quiet.”

Her statement has since stirred debate across social media, with some agreeing with her candid assessment and others accusing her of overlooking the systemic failures that have driven many young Nigerians to seek opportunities abroad.

Regardless of the backlash, Tacha’s remarks have reignited discussions about youth responsibility, patriotism, and what it truly means to contribute to national development in the face of persistent hardship.
