What should have been a dream come true for Makinde Emmanuel Opeyemi has turned into a horrifying nightmare — one that has cost him his visa, his job, his savings, and now threatens to put him behind bars in the UK for a crime he never committed.

This story was narrated on X (formerly Twitter) by Qayyum Oluwadamilola.

A Trust Betrayed: How It All Started

Makinde, like many young Nigerians, had high hopes of furthering his education in the UK. Through his pastor, a man he trusted like a father, he was introduced to Shitta Waliu Aderibigbe, the owner of Fanzine Educational Consultants — a supposed expert in study-abroad opportunities. Convinced he was in good hands, Makinde paid millions of naira for his admission and visa processing.

Out of gratitude for what he thought was a successful visa application, he even gave his agent an extra ₦1 million as a “thank you.”

Little did he know that he was walking into the biggest scam of his life.

The Fraud: How Makinde’s Identity Was Used for Visa Smuggling

Behind Makinde’s back, Aderibigbe carried out a fraudulent scheme that would later ruin his life. He illegally added a woman, Dolapo Afusat Yusuf, as Makinde’s dependent spouse on his visa application — without his consent or knowledge.

Dolapo, who is allegedly Aderibigbe’s side chick, was successfully smuggled into the UK under Makinde’s visa details.

Makinde, unaware of the deception, continued to trust Aderibigbe even after arriving in the UK. He regularly updated him on his progress and even shared his Biometric Residence Permit (BRP), unknowingly giving Aderibigbe all the details needed to link Dolapo to him legally.

The Devastating Discovery: When It All Fell Apart

Makinde only realized what had happened when he attempted to renew his visa and bring his actual partner over to the UK. The UK Home Office demanded details about his “wife” —a request that left him confused. He wasn’t married. He had never even met Dolapo. (Image attached below)

But the #HomeOffice had official documents proving otherwise. His visa records clearly listed Dolapo Afusat Yusuf as his legal spouse, and all necessary marriage documents had already been submitted by Aderibigbe. The forgeries were so well done that even UK authorities accepted them as authentic.

A Life Destroyed Overnight

As soon as Makinde challenged the fraudulent claims, his nightmare spiraled out of control:
• His student visa was revoked on allegations of visa fraud.
• He lost his job due to the immigration complications.
• He was placed under investigation for being part of an alleged immigration scam.
• He has since spent over £20,000 on legal fees, trying to prove his innocence.

And now, he is facing possible prison time in the UK for a crime he never committed.

Meanwhile, the Real Fraudster Walks Free

The most shocking part of this entire ordeal? The man responsible, Shitta Waliu Aderibigbe, is still walking free in Nigeria. This case was reported to the Nigerian Police Headquarters in Abuja, and Aderibigbe was arrested—but in classic Nigerian fashion, he bribed his way out and is still enjoying his freedom.

Serious Questions That Need Answers
1. How did Aderibigbe manage to forge marriage documents so convincingly that the UK Home Office accepted them without question?
2. What would have happened if Dolapo committed a crime in the UK? Would Makinde be arrested for something he had nothing to do with?
3. Why is a man with overwhelming evidence against him still free, while his victim suffers?

Makinde is on the Brink — He Needs Justice Now

This ordeal has pushed Makinde to his lowest point. After losing his job, his visa, and nearly all his savings, he is now battling severe depression and suicidal thoughts. He has done everything possible to clear his name, but he remains stuck in a nightmare with no end in sight.

Meanwhile, Aderibigbe is living his life as if nothing happened, likely preying on new victims while Makinde fights to stay alive.

This cannot be ignored. Makinde deserves justice, and those responsible for ruining his life must be held accountable.
