Good news! You can now easily apply for your Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) on your own, thanks to the online platform provided by the Police Service Commission.

Here’s a simple guide to walk you through the process:

Step 1: Register for an Account
1. Visit the Official Website: Go to possap.gov.ng.
2. Login/Sign Up:

• Click on the menu icon (three dashes) at the top right corner.

• Select Login/Sign Up. If you don’t have an account, click on Sign Up.

3. Choose Account Type:

• Select Individual

• Choose your identification type: NIN or BVN (depending on what you have). To check your NIN, dial *346# or check BVN using 5650#.

• Fill in the necessary details like your gender, State of Origin, LGA, and address.

4. Create Account:

• Create a password and confirm it.

• After submission, a verification code will be sent to your email and phone.

• Enter the verification code and log in with your email and password.

Step 2: Apply for the Police Character Certificate
i. Select Service Type:

• Once logged in, select Service Type as Police Character Certificate and click Proceed.

ii. Fill in Details:

• All your personal details will appear. You can also supply an alternative contact if needed

.

• Proceed to the next step.

iii. Agree to Terms:

• Review and click Accept for the terms and conditions.

iv. Complete the Application:

• For Request Type, select International.

• Under Reason for Enquiry, choose Traveling or select the relevant reason.

• Fill in the country you plan to travel to (e.g., UK, Canada), and your passport details such as place and date of issue.

• Indicate if you’ve ever been convicted (select Yes or No).

v. Upload Documents:

• Upload a recent passport-sized photograph (2MB max).

• Upload the data page of your international passport (2MB max).

vi. Police Command Selection:

• Choose the Police Command from which you want to request your character certificate

vii. Generate Invoice:

• Click Generate Invoice and proceed to make the payment.

Step 3: Payment

• Select Pay Online.

• Copy and keep the payment reference receipt.

• Enter your card details to make payment (30,000 NGN online).

• Alternatively, choose transfer/USSD if applicable.

Step 4: Diaspora Application (For Applicants Outside Nigeria)
i. Download the PCC Form:

• Check the files section for the PCC form.

ii. Complete the Form:

• Fill in the form based on your sex and include your thumbprint and other details.

iii. Send Application:

• Send the completed form along with proof of address (utility bill, bank statement, etc.) to secretariat@possap.gov.ng.

iv. Receive Your Certificate:

• You’ll receive your certificate within 24 hours.
