In a bold attempt to make history, Alma Asinobi, a 26-year-old Nigerian postgraduate architecture student and travel entrepreneur, is set to challenge the Guinness World Record for the fastest time traversing all seven continents.

Since obtaining her first #passport in 2019, #Asinobi set an ambitious goal of visiting 16 countries annually. Though the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted her plans, she has since visited over 30 countries and founded Kaijego, a travel agency.

On 15 March 2025, she will embark on her most daring adventure yet: breaking the record for the shortest time to step foot on all seven continents, a feat that currently stands at 64 hours, set by U.S. Air Force veteran Johnny Buckingham in February.

Navigating Global Travel Barriers as a Nigerian

Asinobi’s journey is not just about speed—it is also a statement on the challenges faced by Nigerians traveling with a “low-mobility” passport. Ranked 88th on the 2025 Henley Passport Index, Nigerian passport holders frequently face visa restrictions, unfair scrutiny, and arbitrary immigration policies.

She personally experienced these obstacles in September 2023 when Egyptian officials delayed her travel to Jordan and Qatar, demanding proof of a return ticket to Nigeria. Standing her ground, she challenged the claim and had the issue resolved within minutes.

Her Guinness World Record attempt will require her to step outside each airport to document her journey at landmarks. She will begin in Antarctica, where she looks forward to seeing penguins, and conclude in Australia.

A Last-Minute Challenge, A Nation’s Support

Initially preparing to beat the 2023 record of 73 hours, Asinobi learned just days before her trip that Buckingham had set a new record of 64 hours. Instead of backing down, she responded on X:

“Am I crazy enough to challenge a US Airforce veteran to break a mission-planning record with barely a week to plan? YES.”

Asinobi also aims to set another record—the most signatures on a travel memorabilia—by collecting thousands of signatures on a Nigerian flag, which she will display at a welcome event in Lagos upon her return.

Nigerians at home and abroad have rallied behind her, with fellow world traveler Fiyinfoluwa Akinsiku praising her courage and looking forward to welcoming her into the elite group of people who have stepped foot on all seven continents.

As the countdown begins, Asinobi is ready to defy expectations, push boundaries, and prove that the Nigerian dream knows no limits.
