A Nigerian-born pharmacist, Adaeze (@kwi_nette), has gone viral after sharing her remarkable journey in response to the trending question: “What’s the most unhinged thing you’ve done to get ahead?”
Her story has resonated widely for its resilience, sacrifice, and global scope - spanning Europe, Africa, and North America.
After graduating from pharmacy school in Hungary, Adaeze returned to Nigeria, but just a year later she relocated to the United States to pursue professional licensing. With no mentor or clear roadmap, determination was her only guide.
Six months into her U.S. journey, the COVID-19 pandemic struck. “At this point, I felt I should have stayed back in Europe,” she admitted, recalling the uncertainty of that period.
Still, she pressed forward. Adaeze earned a Master’s degree with a published thesis while preparing for her licensure exams—an effort that paid off with three major achievements:
• 2018: Hungarian Licensed Pharmacist – eligible to practise across the EU
• 2019: Nigerian Licensed Pharmacist
• 2023: United States Licensed Pharmacist
Her decisions have continued to defy convention. Just three months ago, she declined a lucrative one-year retention bonus and a permanent leadership role in community pharmacy, instead opting to move into clinical practice.
And in a bold step outside pharmacy, Adaeze joined the U.S. Army last year—a move she describes as transformative, reshaping her outlook on life.
Her journey reflects the extraordinary risks and sacrifices many Nigerians in the diaspora are willing to take in pursuit of professional growth. For Adaeze, the “unhinged” step was moving across continents without a clear path—yet turning uncertainty into opportunity.
