In an official message posted on its verified X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday, the US Mission in Nigeria emphasized that students who drop out, miss classes regularly, or leave their academic programmes without notifying their institutions may face visa consequences.
Such actions, the mission noted, could result in the revocation of current student visas and impact eligibility for future visa applications.
The embassy encouraged students to remain in good academic standing and communicate with their designated school officials to avoid complications related to their visa status.
The message read:
“If you drop out, skip classes, or leave your programmes of study without informing your school, your student visa may be revoked, and you may lose eligibility for future US visas.”
It further advised:
“Always adhere to the terms of your visa and maintain your student status to avoid any issues.
This reminder serves as part of broader efforts by the US government to ensure international students understand and comply with the legal conditions of their stay.
